Mirial PSE Broadcaster Genie enables 3G-to-TV video calling at 260 km/h

Milan, March 06, 2008 - Mirial today announced that TV3, Catalonia's first public television channel, used its PSE Broadcaster Genie to broadcast on TV a 3G video call made on board the new AVE train during its very first, high-speed trip from Barcelona to Madrid.

PSE Broadcaster Genie ensured a dynamic, bidirectional audio/video connection between reporter Rosa Talamas and the TV3 news presenter, working smoothly even from the train at 260 km/h; the correspondent could send on air a live video stream from the AVE coach, while interacting with the TV studio and interviewing the passengers on the train.

"Thanks to PSE Broadcaster Genie by Mirial we could set up an efficient audio/video connection and make a live shooting for a news otherwise difficult to report" said Francesc Mas Peinado, Head of News and Mobile Units Technical Department at TV3. "This product exactly matches our needs in terms of flexibility, reliability and effectiveness; we were very impressed by the performance of the product during the AVE opening trip, and we're looking forward to future opportunities for leveraging on it".

Cristoforo Mione, Sales and Marketing Director at Mirial, comments: "Live breaking news is one of the main purposes for which our PSE Broadcaster Genie was engineered , thus we're proud to see that its first deployment are already fitting the actual broadcasters needs. Since the product consists of a comprehensive, plug-and-play, standards-compliant appliance which directly turns any 3G or IP video call into an SDI video stream, there's potentially no limit to its implementations. Just to give some examples, we could think of enhancing a Participation TV show with the high impact of video, or even creating totally innovative TV formats that appeal and retent the audience by letting them appear on TV: the product doesn't request any prior software installation on the viewers' devices to work, thus they would only need to video call a fixed line number to be on air - that would also open up to broadcasters a range of possibilities to generate revenues from premium video telephony services".
