Mirial partners with the GARR community for the adoption of video conferencing

Milan, January 30, 2009 - Mirial today announced a partnership with Consortium GARR, the creator and administrator of a broadband telecommunication network infrastructure providing communication tools and services for the research and teaching activities of the Italian scientific and academic community.
Thanks to this collaboration, all the GARR member companies can take advantage of special terms when purchasing some of the Mirial products, including Mirial Softphone, the advanced software-based client for professional SD and HD video conferencing.

Mirial Softphone fully passed the rigorous functionality and usability tests of Vconf, a new service available for free to all the GARR network users willing to communicate in audio and video within different locations. This service enables to remotely access an MCU (Multipoint Control Unit) and share a virtual room with three or more users, plus to use a portal for the reservation and management of the virtual rooms and to broadcast the video conference session in streaming.
Once a GARR user reserves a virtual room, the video conference can be accessed by participants connected from any network meeting the minimum technical requirements; this allows to extend the reach of GARR's Vconf service to any Italian or foreign researcher, encouraging the coordination and collaboration of Italian and International research activities and promoting the diffusion and testing of such cutting-edge communication technologies.

"The Vconf service is truly useful for the Italian scientific and academic community, since it offers a free and advanced communication tool that is as easy and usable as a traditional phone call; relying on Vconf will allow to simplify the organization of national and international initiatives while extending the participation to those initiatives to a larger number of users; said Claudio Allocchio, Application Services Manager at Consortium GARR. "The partnership with Mirial will give a further choice to our users in the adoption of video conferencing and proves Mirial's acknowledgement of the the GARR community's need for state-of-the-art technologies".

"Remote collaboration and visual communication activities are finally diffusing in Italy, throughout any industry and state and education institutions: Consortium GARR was one of the first organizations in Italy to perceive their potential" comments Cristoforo Mione, Business Development Director at Mirial. "This partnership is an occasion to show the reliability of our audio/video communication technologies and their valuability and convenience in the deployment of routine processes for any company".
